The Prophecy in Daniel, chapter 9Part TwoIn the last newsletter we ended with verse 26 of Daniel chapter 9. We continue our theme with verse 27. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined in poured on the desolate. Here in this verse, we are dealing with a period of time yet to take place in history. This is the last week (70th week as mentioned in verse 24). This week represents a period of seven years. It also correlates to the period of time mentioned in Revelation (the last seven years before the Lord’s return). At this time, the Anti-Christ will be revealed and the wrath of God will be poured out on the earth. Moreover, I believe that the dreams shown to Pharaoh and interpreted by Joseph ( in the book of Genesis) are prophetically connected to these events as well. The seven years of plenty is the time of God’s grace that began from the resurrection and ascension of the Messiah until the revealing of the Anti-Christ. This is followed by the second set of seven years, characterized as years of famine, which relates to the coming of the Anti-Christ and the wrath of God. The events of the tribulation and the coming of the Anti-Christ can also be seen in the events of the Maccabees (the story of Chanukah). Anticus Epiphanas is a clear prototype of the Anti-Christ which will come and make a false peace treaty with Israel for three and a half years. Yet he will eventually defile the temple and go against the Jewish people by forcing them to worship him. Unfortunately we know, according to the Bible, that the Jews will face yet another wave of persecution. At the end of this time frame, Israel will see the Messiah, coming from heaven in order to rescue them. We see this picture correlated in one of Joseph’s dream when he saw the twelve stars and the sun and the moon bow before him (signifying his father and brothers). Accordingly, the people of Israel will bow before the Messiah as well. Just as Joseph revealed himself to his brothers at the end, so too will the Messiah reveal Himself to the people of Israel.
