Very often God uses symbols in the Bible. One of them is an almond tree. Almond trees grow in
Syria
and
Israel
and are mentioned in the Bible many times.
In the Old Testament, the almond tree was a symbol of watchfulness and promise due to its early flowering, symbolizing God's sudden and rapid punishment of His people. In Jeremiah 1:11-12 we read: “The word of the LORD came to me: "What do you see, Jeremiah?" "I see the branch of an almond tree," I replied. The LORD said to me, "You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.
The message is that God is watching to make sure His word is fulfilled. But what does an almond tree have to do with it?
In the Old Testament, the almond was a symbol of watchfulness and promise due to its early flowering, symbolizing God's sudden or rapid blessings or punishment upon His people. In the book of Jeremiah, God speaks about events that are going to take place. First is punishment and the second is revival. Look carefully at what God says in Chapter 2 verse 20: “For of old I have broken your yoke and burst your bonds; And you said, ‘I will not transgress."
Looking into previous passages in the book of Jeremiah, we may think that God is referring to Israel’s past sin. Yet, carefully studying the Scriptures we find that God is also calling His people back to Himself. God is calling for revival!
In the Bible, the almond is mentioned ten times, beginning in Genesis 43:11, where it is described "among the best of fruits". In Numbers17, Leviis chosen from the other tribes of
Israel
by Aaron's rod, which brought forth almond flowers. According to tradition, the rod of Aaron bore sweet almonds on one side and bitter on the other; if the Israelites followed the Lord, the sweet almonds would be ripe and be edible, but if they were to forsake the path of the Lord, the bitter almonds would predominant.
The almond blossom supplied a model for the menorahwhich stood in the Temple, "Three cups, shaped like almond blossoms, were on one branch, with a knob and a flower; and three cups, shaped like almond blossoms, were on the other...on the candlestick itself were four cups, shaped like almond blossoms, with its knobs and flowers" (Exodus25:33-34; 37:19-20).
Looking at these examples we understand two things. Number one, the almond tree represents the timing of the Lord and number two it also refers to God's children. God said to the prophet Jeremiah “what do you see?” It was with great purpose that God showed Jeremiah the almond tree in his vision. God was saying a specific message. And the message was and is still today that God is watching to see that His word is fulfilled.
The almond tree is first to blossom before other trees. Therefore it not only symbolizes God's watchfulness but also His children blossoming among all other people. As the read in Chapter 2, God has already broken the yoke over our life and now we need to follow the next step. Every morning we must declare that we are blossoming and not drying out. Every morning we must remind ourselves that God is watching to see that His word is fulfilled and ready to be performed.
What ever the circumstances we are facing each day they are no threat to us. God is watching to protect us and to deal with every situation. All we need to do is trust in Him.This message is also directed toward the children of Israel, the Jewish people. God is going to restore this nation. They are not forgotten. God's faithfulness is renewed every morning. His covenants with His people
Israel
are forever before Him. God is faithfully watching to perform His word.
In these dangerous and unstable times we must remember God's faithfulness toward His children Israel and all that call upon His name! God spoke into my heart to bring this message to you to encourage you to continue to trust in Him and to continue to stand and support His chosen people
Israel
. If you are looking for an answer from God, and are waiting for your blessings to come, now is the time to stand with
Israel
. Left me bring your careful attention to what God said to Jeremiah, “…"What do you see, Jeremiah?" "I see the branch of an almond tree," I replied. The LORD said to me, "You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled."
The Lord said that He is watching to see that His word is fulfilled. There are two things here. First, God is watching. Second, His word is to be fulfilled. This is a guarantee of God’s faithfulness because He is always watching and will make sure that His word comes to pass.
Friends. Let us continue to obey God and He will bring your victory to pass!
